Papworth: A Moving Story

Free film screenings

Date: Saturday 21 July 2018
Time: 15:00-16:00 and 19:00-20:00

In 2018, Royal Papworth Hospital is celebrating its centenary year as well as preparing for a historic move to a new hospital on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus.  To mark 100 years of this extraordinary institution,  this film tells the fascinating story of how the hospital grew from a tuberculosis ‘colony’ to a leading heart and lung hospital, which now performs more heart and lung transplants than any other hospital in the UK. Blending archive footage with contemporary interviews with staff, patients and supporters, Papworth: A Moving Story offers a unique insight into this pioneering hospital as it mark its centenary and looks towards the future.

This special event will not be the first ‘cinema night’ to take place at Papworth Village Hall. Regular film nights were once held here for tuberculosis patients living in the village, and it is in the spirit of this tradition that we invite you to join us for two free screenings of Papworth: A Moving Story.

A number of tickets will also be available on the day for the screening on a first-come, first-served basis. The Papworth Brewery will also be there to provide refreshments.

This film and screenings were made possible thanks to a generous grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund, and with funds from Papworth Hospital Charity.

Another screening will be held at Cambridge Picturehouse on Thursday 5 July – the day of the NHS' 70th birthday. Tickets will go on sale on the Cambridge Picturehouse website on Wednesday 16 May.
