Hospital commended at fire service awards

Royal Papworth Hospital was awarded a Certificate of Commendation at the annual Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service (CFRS) Excellence Awards.

The hospital was recognised for its ongoing support to the service in allowing staff to be released to provide on-call cover at Papworth Fire Station, in addition to providing venues for operational training.

The annual event, which took place at the Huntingdon Marriott Hotel on Thursday, 18 January, celebrated the achievements of staff and other members of the community. The Certificate of Commendation is awarded to a person or organisation that has demonstrated excellent support to the fire service.

In September 2017, the hospital hosted its most recent practice scenario, involving an imagined explosion on the site, which also required police and ambulance support. The hospital’s Crisis Management Team was also set up and put to the test.

Royal Papworth Hospital’s Chief Executive Stephen Posey collected the award at the ceremony.

He said: "Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue provides a vital service and we will continue to do all we can to support it.

"The fire station at Papworth Everard has played an important role in keeping our patients safe from the risk of fire and many hospital staff members have volunteered with the fire service over the years. The training exercises that take place on site are also an excellent opportunity to put our critical incident plan to the test, and keep staff training up to date."
