What does this delay mean for me as a patient?

We would like to reassure our patients that we will continue providing all of our services on our current site in Papworth Everard until we move to the new hospital. We are committed to continuing to deliver the same excellent patient experience and outcomes on our current site.

When will you now move to the new hospital?

We are currently awaiting confirmation from the construction company building the new hospital, Skanska, with regards to how long it will take them to complete the remedial work needed. However, early indications suggest it will take a number of months. We will inform patients as soon as we have a new date for the move.

I know you were planning to sell your current hospital site ahead of the move. What will happen now?

We will need to sell our current site in Papworth Everard ahead of our move to the new hospital. We had made good progress with the land sale but it had not yet been agreed. There will need to be some renegotiation with the potential purchaser but we do not expect the new timings to have a significant impact on the sale.


When will I receive my appointment letter?

Letters for appointments that will take place in the new hospital will be sent from June.

How do I get to the new hospital?

The new hospital is based on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus, close to Addenbrooke’s Hospital. A map to the Campus will be included with your appointment letter, as well as information about how to get to the hospital by car or public transport.

Where can I park?

Parking is available in Car Park 2, which is next to the hospital. There are a few spaces outside the hospital to allow for patients being dropped off or collected, but these will have a maximum 10 minute stay.

We will have four Blue Badge spaces outside of the hospital, but there are additional disabled spaces on levels 1-4 of Car Park 2.

Patients are entitled to discounted parking (£3.60 per day) but will need to show their appointment letter or card at the customer service desk within the car park for the discount to be applied. Other rates apply for visitors. Full details are displayed at the car park and will be available on our website in September.

Parking is paid for at one of the pay stations within the car park entrance on the ground floor. The machines accept both card and cash payments.

Parking is also available at Park & Ride sites around Cambridge. The closest Park & Ride sites to the new hospital are Trumpington and Babraham Road and these have direct bus services to the Campus.

Where will my appointment be?

Your appointment letter will provide the location of your appointment. If you have any queries when you get to the hospital please go to the main reception on the ground floor of the hospital and they will be able to help you.

One of the many benefits of our new hospital is that all outpatient appointments will be in the same place.

What facilities will be available at the new hospital?

There will be a restaurant, convenience store and cash point on the ground floor of the hospital.
There will be free wifi throughout the hospital.
In-patients will also be able to enjoy our new free Patient Entertainment System.
