David Dean joins our Board of Directors

The Trust will welcome a new Non-Executive Director this month as David Dean joins our Board of Directors.

David, who has experience at both executive and non-executive level within the NHS, will join our Board as a designate Non-Executive Director this month before taking up a full voting position from October 2018, when our current Non-Executive Director Mark Millar steps down.

From 2007 to 2014, David was a non-executive director at Guy’s and St Thomas NHS Foundation Trust, where he served as Audit Chair and later as Vice Chairman of the Trust. From 2013-2014 he was also Chairman of The Queen Elizabeth Hospital King’s Lynn NHS Foundation Trust. From 2014 to 2017 David was a Senior Director at NHS Improvement (formerly Monitor) joining initially to lead the Enforcement and later the Transformation and Turnaround teams.

Prior to his NHS career David was an Investment Banker in London and Hong Kong for 17 years and following his retirement from banking, a part-time concert pianist. He is currently Chairman of Essentia Trading Limited, a wholly –owned commercial subsidiary of Guy’s and St Thomas NHS Foundation Trust. David is an active distance runner and completed the 250 mile Cape Wrath Ultra marathon across North West Scotland, in May 2018.

David said: "I am excited to be joining such a pioneering and highly-respected organisation at this crucial time in its development. From my previous NHS experience, I know the huge potential that Cambridge Biomedical Campus has to improve patient care and Royal Papworth will soon be at the heart of this ground-breaking project."
