Marcus joined Royal Papworth Hospital NHS Foundation Trust as Chief People Officer in June 2026, having previously held the same title at Hertfordshire Community NHS Trust.
Marcus has a broad career, beginning in the Department of Communities and Local Government in 2006 as an administrative assistant before working in Private Office roles for both Labour and Conservative Ministers. Marcus then moved to the Ministry of Defence and later to the Home Office to focus on domestic counter terrorism.
He then made the switch to healthcare, specialising in temporary staffing and supply at the Department of Health and Social Care. From there, a series of roles followed at NHS Improvement and NHS England, including leading on the Covid-19 Risk Assessment Delivery Unit and efforts to increase staff Covid-19 vaccination uptake, before becoming Director for Strategic Partnerships at NHS Professionals.
Marcus moved to Essex Partnership as Director for OD, prior to becoming the Interim Executive Chief People Officer, and then became Chief People Officer at Hertfordshire Community NHS Trust in July 2024.
Marcus is particularly passionate about developing people and helping them succeed, and ensuring underrepresented groups have the same opportunities to progress.
A resident of north London and an avid Arsenal fan, he is the former Chairman of Kori, a community charity in north east London that provides services for disadvantaged children from predominantly BAME and low-income backgrounds.
