In April 2026, Royal Papworth staff sent 332 Laudits to celebrate the everyday extraordinary achievements of their colleagues.
Our award-winning positive incident reporting platform, Laudit, allows our people to send positive feedback to one another in just a few simple clicks.
Everyone who receives a Laudit is automatically entered into a monthly draw and five winners are selected at random.
Our April winners were Anna Scarr, Christy Varghese, Frances King, Hayley Eltamimy and Shannon Bellamy.
Anna Scarr, Dietetic Assistant
Anna has worked at Royal Papworth for eight months. She was recently commended by her colleague Clare for her support in coordinating a complex patient discharge.
Anna followed the home enteral feeding (HEF) set-up process thoroughly and worked closely with Clare to ensure all necessary arrangements were in place for a safe and timely discharge.
Despite extensive planning and preparation, the care agency made a last-minute request for additional supplies.
Anna showed initiative and strong problem-solving skills by quickly contacting the ward and resolving the issue before the patient was discharged. She kept everyone informed with clear and timely communication, ensuring a smooth and effective handover.

“How friendly and welcoming staff are here and that there is always something interesting to learn every day."

“My family and friends.”
What was your first ever job?
“My first ever job was a pot washer and waitress at a pub called The Hercules.”
What’s a habit you’re trying to break or build?
“I'm trying to break going on reels and I'm trying to build a longer attention span.”
What’s your favourite hobby?
“Running, playing tennis, reading and cooking.”
What do you admire about the people in your team?
“I admire their work ethic, attention to detail and knowledge.”
If you could master any skill immediately, what would it be?
“Oooh that's a good question! There are lots I'd love to master. One would be being fluent in another language and the other would be mastering tennis.”
How do you unwind after a busy or stressful day?
“By watching a Netflix show and ordering a takeaway.”
What’s your most treasured possession?
“Probably my bike as I've heard so many horror stories about bikes being stolen in Cambridge that I feel lucky I still have one. Hopefully I haven't jinxed it now!”
Christy Varghese, Deputy Head of Digital Operations – Applications
Christy has worked at Royal Papworth for nearly 18 years. He was praised for his leadership of the configuration team as well as the support he provides to colleagues and his commitment to their professional development.
Described as a true team player, Christy is always looking for opportunities to improve workflows, streamline processes and increase efficiency within the team. He takes a proactive approach to problem-solving, consistently seeking effective solutions to challenges.

Frances King, Physiotherapist
Frances has worked at Royal Papworth for a year and a half. She was recently praised by a colleague for the way she’s embraced her cardiac surgery and transplant rotation.
She takes everything in her stride and is a highly competent member of the team.

“The variety of patients we get to work with and the different treatments we can offer due to this.”
Who inspires you?
“I get inspired when we have particularly complex patients who you see progressing well. It really drives you to keep up that work with all our patients!”
If you could master any skill immediately, what would it be?
“Playing tennis, I’ve tried and failed many times!”
What’s your favourite way to spend a day off?
“Either swimming or cycling, then relaxing for the rest of the day.”

“Their enthusiasm.”
What’s your proudest accomplishment?
“Completing a half ironman last year to raise money for the Sick Children’s Trust in memory of my cousin.”
What’s your most treasured possession?
“Maybe my wedding dress.”
Hayley Eltamimy, Ward Sisters Administrator
Hayley was praised by her colleague Rachel for assisting her in adding temporary staff members’ shifts to the roster, ensuring they were paid correctly for the work they'd completed.
Rachel highlighted Hayley’s kindness and her willingness to help, noting the positive impact of her support.
Shannon Bellamy, ECMO Retrieval and Specialist Nurse, Critical Care
Shannon has worked at Royal Papworth for six years. She was nominated by her colleague Sonia for her exceptional performance during an ECMO emergency involving air in the circuit.
The situation was managed with remarkable speed, expertise and professionalism, with patient safety remaining the highest priority throughout.
The incident demonstrated the critical importance of the ECMO specialist and ECMO retrieval role in intensive care and the management of patients requiring this high-risk support.

“It was completely unexpected, but really lovely and very appreciated as I’m simply just doing my job!”
What do you like most about working at Royal Papworth?
“I love being part of the ECMO team. It’s such a supportive and hardworking group of people who genuinely care about the patients and families we look after. It’s really special to work alongside people who not only provide incredible care at Royal Papworth but also support hospitals across the East of England.”
Who inspires you?
“My mum.”
What was your first ever job?
“I worked in a stationery shop.”
What’s your favourite hobby?
“I love reading and hiking.”
What do you admire about the people in your team?
“I really admire my nursing colleagues in intensive care. They work incredibly hard and continue to show compassion, kindness and professionalism even on the toughest days. I feel very lucky to work alongside such amazing people.”
What’s your proudest accomplishment?
“Honestly, just being someone my friends and family can rely on. Being there for the people I love will always be my biggest win.”
