The British Medical Association (BMA) has announced strike action for resident doctors in April.
There will be a full, six-day walk-out by BMA resident doctors from 07:00 on Tuesday 7 April 2026 to 06:59 on Monday 13 April 2026.
Patient safety will always be our priority. If you have a loved one in hospital during these dates, they will be cared for safely.
We will contact you if your care needs to be re-arranged
Sometimes, to maintain safety during strikes, we have to re-arrange appointments and procedures.
If you are booked for an appointment or procedure during this time, please attend as planned unless we have contacted you to cancel.
If your appointment or procedure is cancelled, please be reassured that it will be re-scheduled for the earliest possible date.
Choose services wisely
If you develop a new health issue, the NHS is asking patients to choose services wisely during industrial action and take simple steps to help ensure care is available to patients who need it most.
These steps include using NHS 111 online as the first port of call for health needs and continuing to only call 999 in a life-threatening emergency.
GP practices will be open during the resident doctors strikes. Please continue to attend your GP and dental appointments, unless you are contacted and told otherwise.
Pharmacies will also remain open.
