Cardiothoracic Surgery and Transplantation.
Nicola started her nursing career in 1990 as nursing auxiliary. She took the NVQ route to nurse training, qualifying in 2004. Since then she has worked through the bandings from Band 5 to Band 6 roles on our Chest Medical Unit (CMU) and moved to a Pulomonary Hypertension (PH) specialist nurse role in 2011. We asked her about her role here at Royal Papworth...
What attracted you to the job?
I gravitated to looking after the PH patients while working on CMU as a staff nurse and accumulated many skills that relate to PH patient care. The complexity of the condition never ceases to interest me.
What’s your favourite part of the job?
Seeing a patient who has been very restricted by their disease improve with the therapies, improving their quality and longevity of life.
