Please find below some answers to questions you might have about Royal Papworth Private Care.

Can relatives stay in the rooms with patients?

This is at the discretion of the ward sister or ward co-coordinator and is normally only possible in special circumstances - if the patient needs language help, for example.

How quickly will I be seen?

On receipt of a referral letter, we will usually be able to make an appointment for you to see the consultant within two weeks.

How can I be referred for treatment at Royal Papworth?

The first step is to ask your referring doctor to send a written referral to the Private Care team at Royal Papworth Hospital, either by post or via our online referral form. This letter should include a full clinical history.

Can I self refer?

Please contact your consultant of choice to confirm whether or not they will accept a self referral. Some medical insurance policies may not cover you for self referral.

If I choose to see a consultant privately, can I change back to the NHS for treatment?

Yes, but you would need to refer back to your original doctor and rejoin the NHS waiting list for treatment.

How much does a consultation cost?

The cost of a consultation ranges between £120 and £400, excluding tests. Please contact the Private Care team at papworth.privatecare@nhs.uk or 01223 638818 for further details.

How long does a consultation take?

The consultation normally lasts between half an hour and 1 hour, depending on whether or not you are a new patient.

How do I choose a consultant?

Your referring clinician may recommend a consultant, but you can find out more about our consultants and services on this website. Please contact the Private Care team and we will help you to identify a consultant specialising in your condition/illness.
