Dr Florian Falter trained in several countries in Europe before being appointed as consultant anaesthetist in Papworth in October 2001. His interest in cardiac anaesthesia developed early in his training, leading him to completing a PhD in Transoesophageal Echocardiography in the late 1990ties.

Dr Falter has an extensive research background and is focussing his academic efforts on cardiopulmonary bypass, coagulation and point of care laboratory testing. In addition to about 70 articles, he has published three textbooks and contributed numerous chapters to various book.

Dr Falter was appointed as a Visiting Professor at Columbia University in New York in 2013 and he is a Lecturer at Bristol University.
