Debra Thomas completed her undergraduate medical training at Guy’s and St Thomas’s medical school (part of the University of London) in the year 2000. She undertook basic postgraduate medical training in hospitals in Western Australia and the Wessex region before completing her higher medical training in respiratory and general medical medicine within the Wessex deanery. After completion of her training she was appointed to the positon of lung transplant fellow at the advanced lung disease unit at the Royal Perth Hospital in Perth, Western Australia. In addition to training in lung transplantation this fellowship offered experience in managing patients with end-stage cystic fibrosis, interstitial lung disease and pulmonary hypertension. She was appointed to the post of consultant respiratory physician specialising in lung transplantation at the end of 2012.
