Every patient with suspected or confirmed cancer is discussed in a multi-disciplinary meeting. These meetings occur 2-3 times every week and are attended by chest physicians, lung oncologists, thoracic surgeons, radiologists and pathologists, palliative care specialists and clinical nurse specialists.

During the meeting each patient's case is carefully discussed, including looking at the scans and biopsy results. The team then recommends the best treatment for each person which is then discussed with the patient at the next clinic appointment.

The Royal Papworth multi-disciplinary team (MDT) often discuss complex cases referred by other hospitals for a specialist opinion. Royal Papworth also has a specialist regional mesothelioma meeting to discuss the special needs for this group of patients.
