Invitation to book your COVID-19 vaccine

Welcome to the Royal Papworth Hospital COVID-19 Vaccination Hub pages. Below you will find a check list of things you need to do and information you need to bear in mind when booking your COVID-19 vaccine. The vaccine being administered is the COVID-19 AstraZeneca vaccine.

Your safety is our priority

Please be assured that as you would expect, we are following the strictest infection, prevention and control measures to ensure your safety at our vaccine clinic.  This means that your vaccinators will be wearing personal protective equipment, such as gloves, surgical face masks and visors so that they can be within two metres of you to administer the vaccine.  Our clinic staff will be regularly sanitising any surfaces that you come into contact with and ensuring that you are able to socially distance throughout your appointment.

We will be asking you to wear a face mask too, and to follow our social distancing and hand hygiene measures whilst in the hospital. Please also try to arrive to your appointment no more than five minutes early, and to leave after your observation period of 15 minutes has elapsed.  This is to reduce the footfall of patients at the clinic which will further facilitate social distancing.  For this reason please understand and be sure to follow the guidance of our friendly clinic and security staff who all have your safety uppermost in their minds.

Eligibility

This COVID-19 Vaccination Hub is for specifically invited patients who have been referred by their hospital clinician or General Practitioner (GP). If you have not been invited to attend this clinic please check your eligibility to attend with your doctor.

By booking your appointment you are confirming that you are eligible to receive the vaccine. You will be asked to show proof of referral (letter from your GP or hospital clinician) and photo ID, such as your passport or drivers licence to access both the hospital and the clinic.

Please do not forward these pages or the booking link on to anyone else unless it is for the purpose of assisting you to book your appointment.

Information to bear in mind when booking your appointment:

Please allow 30 minutes for your appointment

The vaccination hub is open from 12:00-19:00 on Mondays and 07:00-19:00 Tuesdays to Fridays.

You will need your NHS number when booking your vaccine appointment – you should be able to find this on any letter or document you have received from the NHS, including prescriptions, test results, and hospital referrals or appointment letters.

You have been referred to this vaccination clinic by your hospital clinician or General Practitioner who has recommended that you receive this vaccine.  Please read through the supporting documentation, FAQs and the vaccine information leaflet so that you have a full understanding of the vaccine that is being offered. All of this information is available on the Royal Papworth website. If you have any further queries concerning whether you should have the vaccine please contact your referring clinician before proceeding.

Please print and fill out the vaccine consent form and bring this with you to your appointment. The vaccine consent form can be filled in at the clinic if you do not have access to a printer but it would be very helpful if you could fill them out in advance and bring with you.

Please note you must not have had your flu vaccine fewer than 7 days before your appointment.

Attending your appointment:

Vaccine hub location. The vaccine clinic is located in clinics C and E in the outpatients area at Royal Papworth Hospital, Papworth Road, Cambridge Biomedical Campus, Cambridge, CB2 0AY.  See our 'getting to the vaccination hub' page.

Parking. The closest car park to Royal Papworth Hospital can be found at car park 2 (parking fees apply). Please allow 5 minutes to walk from the car park to the south entrance of the hospital. For public transport options see our 'getting to the vaccination hub' page. If you are a blue badge holder there will also be parking spaces available in our short stay car park directly outside the hospital.

Accessing the hospital: Please enter the hospital via the south (car park) entrance. You will be asked to show your proof of referral and photo ID at the entrance. Unfortunately you will not be able to access the hospital if you do not have these documents.

Please arrive on time for your appointment. If you arrive more than five minutes early for your appointment we may need to ask you to wait outside or you can wait inside the main atrium of the hospital if the weather is inclement and then proceed to the outpatient clinic no sooner than five minutes before your appointment time. Please speak to our security team if you need to wait inside. This is to minimise footfall in the hospital for infection control reasons. If you are late your vaccine may be allocated to someone else and you will need to rebook your appointment.

There will be nowhere secure to leave your belongings, please keep them with you at all times.

Accessibility. The clinic is on the ground floor. There are disabled toilets nearby. For full details regarding accessibility, please visit our Accessible website. Wheelchairs are available at the main entrance.

People attending the vaccination hub should come unaccompanied. If however you require a companion or carer to assist you please let us know in advance so that we can factor this in. Similarly if you have any other requirements please let us know and we will aim to support you with these.

Our Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) procedures. Please follow our IPC guidance, which includes wearing a surgical face mask (not face covering) when in the hospital, which we will provide, maintaining social distancing, and follow strict hand hygiene processes.

Don’t forget your photo ID. It is essential that you have your photo ID, such as a drivers licence or passport, with you on the day of the appointment as this will be checked on arrival before being allowed access to the hospital.  It will be checked again prior to vaccination.  If you do not have your photo ID, it is unlikely you will be able to receive your vaccination.

Please do not attend your appointment if you are feeling unwell, are displaying any COVID-19 symptoms or awaiting a COVID-19 test result.

If you need to cancel or no longer require your appointment:

Cancellations must be made 24 hours before your appointment via our DrDoctor booking system. Failure to notify us that you will not be attending may affect your opportunity to rebook.

On the day please telephone 07341 800425. If unanswered, please leave your name and the time of your slot that you are not able to attend or no longer require.

In the event you receive your vaccine at Royal Papworth Hospital ahead of your scheduled appointment with us, please advise us that you no longer require your appointment. Similarly if you were booked in to receive your vaccination with another organisation, and then receive your vaccination at Royal Papworth Hospital please ensure you follow the cancellation process for the organisation you were initially booked in with.

In the event we are required to cancel your appointment, you will receive an email or text message advising you of this. You will then need to rebook your appointment in DrDoctor using the booking system.

About your second appointment:

You will need to have two doses of this vaccine to achieve the best level of protection. See FAQs for further information including why the second dose will be up to 12 weeks after your first dose.

When you book an appointment for your first dose in DrDoctor you will be asked to book an appointment for your second dose at the same time.

The clinic that administers your second dose should be the same clinic that administered your first dose.
