David Jones has joined Royal Papworth Hospital NHS Foundation Trust as a non-executive director, replacing Michael Blastland whose latest term came to an end.
David is an experienced engineering and technology leader with more than three decades of expertise spanning multiple industries.
Based in London, he currently serves as Group Director at the London Stock Exchange Group, where he specialises in productivity, efficiency, and cultural transformation.
David previously served in the British Army as part of the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (REME), where he developed a strong foundation in leadership, problem solving, and engineering excellence.
“I am delighted to be joining the Board at Royal Papworth Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, a hospital with a world-renowned reputation for heart and lung medicine,” said David.
“The opportunity to join Royal Papworth is deeply appealing to me for many reasons. Royal Papworth is an amazing hospital specialising in cardiothoracic care, research, and innovation.
“It operates at the cutting edge of both clinical practice and medical technology, both of which overlap and complement my own professional and personal interests.
“I’m particularly drawn to the hospital’s commitment to delivering the best patient care possible and investing in its staff, all while continuously improving. I hope to be able to contribute across as many areas as possible.”
Michael Blastland stepped down after his second three-year term came to an end, having been a non-executive director at Royal Papworth since 2019.
Dr Jag Ahluwalia, Chair of Royal Papworth Hospital, said: “I would like to thank Michael for his energy and enthusiasm during the past six years. He has always been insightful and thoughtful with his challenges and support to make Royal Papworth even better for the people we treat and staff we employ.
“He has helped us to improve the way we capture and analyse data, the way we ask questions of ourselves as a board of directors, and helped steer our future direction.
“At the same time, it is a very warm welcome to David who brings with him a wealth of experience from various industries.
“David was appointed following a very competitive application and interview process and I am really looking forward to working with him over the next three years.”
David begins his three-year term from Tuesday 1 April 2025.
