We are opening our doors for a friends and family open day next month (Sunday 23 March, 10:00-15:00), giving guests of all ages a taste of life at the world’s leading heart, lung and sleep hospital.
Visitors to this family-friendly event can meet teams from the hospital, explore the equipment involved in providing world-class heart and lung medicine, immerse themselves in a pop-up operating theatre and enjoy a number of other interactive stands, all located in and around the ground-floor atrium.
Youngsters are also encouraged to bring their teddies for a special teddy bear clinic, where staff will diagnose symptoms, take vital measurements and suggest treatment.
Tickets to the open day are free but need to be pre-booked. Visitors are asked to arrive during their selected time slot, but are welcome to stay beyond their ticket time.
Please note we do expect to sell-out, so strongly advise you to secure your tickets today.
Visitors can:
- Visit our pop-up operating theatre
- Discover some of the equipment used by staff in our critical care team
- Learn CPR and then take part in an interactive ambulance game

This is the second year Royal Papworth has hosted a friends and family open day as part of the festival, with our inaugural event in 2024 proving a resounding success with hundreds of visitors attending.
Eilish Midlane, Chief Executive at Royal Papworth Hospital, comments, “After such positive feedback last year we are delighted to be hosting another open day as part of the Cambridge Festival, which celebrates much of the world-leading work that takes place in our city.
“Teams from across our hospital will be sharing their expertise and demonstrating equipment, treatments and activities that we use here on a daily basis. It is a unique opportunity for young and old to glimpse what goes on behind the scenes and what it takes to work in this extraordinary environment.”
Free tickets for our friends and family open day, which is supported by Royal Papworth Charity, can be booked at: https://www.tickettailor.com/events/royalpapworthhospitalnhsfoundationtrust/1574493.
Please note this event is located in and around the ground floor atrium. There will be no tours or public access for guests to other parts of the hospital.
For infection control reasons, guests are also asked not to attend the event if they experience symptoms of diarrhoea or vomiting in the 48 hours leading to the event or if they have symptoms of Covid-19 or flu. Hand washing is encouraged before and after attending the event, to help minimise the risk of spreading infection.
